Common Issues faced with Maxio!

Did you know?
In Togai, we process billions of events per day. You can also view your events in near real-time! Not just that, we’ve built in idempotency that ensures each event is counted exactly once!

Maxio cannot handle or support complex usage based pricing scenarios like wallet based transactions, min and max limits, rule based pricing, hybrid/combination of different pricing models.

No trial plans in Maxio. Pricing starts at around $599/month - which can be pretty steep considering their integration landscape and limited feature set.

Maxio’s $599 covers only their subscription billing, if you want modules like Account Receivables, Account Receivable Management, Payments, Metering, and other add‑ons, it would cost you additionally. This can be very expensive for businesses.

Maxio’s invoicing capabilities are limited to “English” only as they don’t help with translations.

Maxio’s usage based billing is very nascent and you need support for aggregating over 200k events!

What do you dislike about Maxio (formerly SaaSOptics and Chargify)?
The process to import our historical data was time-consuming. It took a few rounds with their support team to get everything imported correctly. Also, some of the advanced accounting questions that our auditors ask require extra digging to get the details they need. Finally, their pricing is on the high side. Every year it's a struggle to justify the expense.

As your product scales, your billing tool should too! That’s why you need a billing software that is flexible and will implement whatever you throw at it!

Detailed Breakdown

Togai vs Maxio

Usage Billing and Metering
  • Connect to any data source (including Togai’s event store), apply filters, enrich data with custom functions and aggregate raw data into real-time usage metrics.
  • Launch any business model in just a few clicks, without the need to write custom logic and application code.
  • Iterate on various pricing strategies, manage subscriptions, usage based pricing, one-time purchases, entitlements, credits and minimum commitments in a single interface.
  • Maxio offers event ingestion via API or Airbyte. Even though it does offer some basic usage functionality, you need support to ingest more than 200k events/day which can be a deal-breaker for companies having large transaction volumes.
  • Not just that, your usage data needs to be time-stamped, there’s no hybrid billing, wallet-based transaction options, or even prepaid billing - which are crucial elements to usage-billing.

What do you dislike about Maxio (formerly SaaSOptics and Chargify)?
The support is incredibly slow. Our last support request went over a month without a response. The onboarding and implementation of SaaSOptics has been met with a lack of understanding and then threats to stop their onboarding servicing due to time limits in the contract; however, the reason for the delay is a byproduct of them not being able to build the reports originally inquired about during the sales process.
Integrations
  • Togai provides 50+ workflows across multiple external apps to automate any complex billing workflow, with support to create your own private flows using our no-code flow builder.
  • Togai also provides custom integrations on request!
  • Maxio’s integrations are touted for being error-prone, inconsistent and which might need manual workarounds.
  • For instance, Maxio’s Quickbooks instance is an available integration where users refrain from using it and users would rather do it manually!

What do you dislike about Maxio (formerly SaaSOptics and Chargify)?
Overall, I've been disappointed with the integrations of Maxio to products like Salesforce that are vital to our business. There is an integration but it is clunky and triggers errors quite often. It's also hard to make mass updates to any data in Maxio and requires the help of our Account Manager.
Pricing Flexibility

With Togai, you can implement over 100+ pricing models from prepaid, postpaid, usage based, licenses, entitlements, to subscriptions. To top, in Togai we also have pricing rules which helps you price and bill your customers the way you want to.

Maxio helps you do traditional subscription and usage based billing, which is basically a metering and rating engine.

  • Model different types of pricing using revenue simulator to understand business impact.
  • Setup an alerting system enables you and your customers to get notified when they cross a usage or revenue threshold.

Maxio doesn’t support customized or in-depth reporting. Many have complained about how Maxio’s reporting is hard and complex and to implement custom reporting, companies need to rely on third-party tools.

What do you dislike about Maxio (formerly SaaSOptics and Chargify)?
Reporting is harder/more complex than I think should be. You should be able to sort to just your reports when first come in not filter vs tags. However, maybe additional training would help address my struggles.
